Super Nintendo Entertainment System

Publié par

Nintendo released the Super Famicom in 1990 in Japan and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1991 in North America and 1992 in Europe. Its release allowed Nintendo to successfully counter the PC-Engine in Japan and to mitigate the success of the SEGA Genesis in North America during a heated console war from 1991 to 1995. Nintendo then lost the market lead to new rival Sony’s PlayStation. This encyclopedia entry details its history, covering its design process, marketing strategy and licensing policies, handling of controversial content through censorship, as well as the technological choices that shaped it and the games library that defined it.
